Carry On, Mr. Bowditch is READY!!!

We’re so excited!!

Our second craft kit is finally available for purchase.

Carry On, Mr. Bowditch is a fictionalized biography of Nathaniel Bowditch, who lived from 1773 to 1838.  Bowditch grew up in the shipping town of Salem, Massachusetts.  A smart boy with an extraordinary understanding of mathematics, he dreamed of going to Harvard.  Circumstances were not in his favor, however, and at the age of 12 he was indentured.

One of the reasons I love this book so much is because Nathaniel turns every situation into a learning opportunity.  He writes everything he learns into notebooks.  This inspired the addition of bookbinding into the kit.

3 Bowditch Book Binding projects.  1 small, 1 medium, 1 large

He learns all he can about surveying, navigation, astronomy, algebra, Latin and French.  After his time is complete at the shipping yard he decides to go to sea, working as a clerk and second mate.  Eventually, he sets to work on an accurate book on navigation and sailing.  His determination and hard work make this a book worthy of reading for both you and your children.  Boys and girls alike will equally enjoy this story.

The kit also includes supplies and instructions to make:

2 Monkey’s Fist Keychains

2 Rope Bracelets

3 different Nautical Bookmarks
